'It was our first time this year on a canal boat, I booked it to celebrate my friends 50th. It was excellent fun right from the start, even in the rain. We all said that we will definitely do it again, and our friends that didn't come now want to join in, as we haven't stopped talking about it!'

'Beutiful scenery, slow and relaxing but fun as well - the locks definitely added to the holiday as they made you think - and you felt you had achieved something by getting through them. Sitting by the side of a beautiful river bank by candlelight with a bottle of champagne listening to the birds and feeding the ducks - fab!'

'Having travelled only 20miles from home to pick up the boat meant we already knew (on land) all the places we would be travelling through. However this gives you a completely different perspective and pace, and shows how much unspoilt wilderness exists so close to our normal urban existence. '

'Most of my working life was spent in farming. Like most farmers I am nosy and my wife is always pointing out how dangerous it is looking over peoples hedges while driving. On a boating holiday you can see over everybodys hedge, travelling at four miles per hour, with a cup of tea in one hand and the tiller in the other. You also get the chance to see some places you might even know from a different angle.'
