The Norfolk Broads are quite special and I'd say a unique UK destination. The wildlife is diverse , the environment is beautiful and the rivers a place of pleasant camaraderie.
We rented the Opal Emblem and had a fantastic short break in October. From the moment we arrived to leaving we thoroughly enjoyed our break. Made all the more special by the staff and the people of the broads.
The Ferry Marina boat yard facilities were very good and even had a swimming pool. Ian gave us our helpful relaxed induction which included local information and tips on spotting Kingfishers , ( these tips were highly successful with pictures to prove it). The bonus wildlife experience was sightings of otters!!!
The Opal Emblem is not a young boat but has everything you need and excellently maintained. The floatation aids provided were discrete and uncumbersome. We noted that of all the hire boats on the broads this stylish looking craft created the least wash. The information pack on board covered everything we needed to know and well worth a good read. We would use the same company again and take the wider family next time.
Advice
A weekend is not enough to explore all that the Broads have to offer but a great break nonetheless! Take a sleeping bag for extra warmth in the potential cold nights of autumn. The smaller Broads are quiet and beautiful, great places to soak up the wildlife. I think it was Ranworth broad that had a tourist information base, a shop, cafe, public mooring and lots of facilities.
We did not have the boat to explore beyond the river banks, so can not comment on any of the tourist attractions... this trip for us was simply a river and wildlife experience and we covered all we wanted and more.

'It was the most relaxing, stress free holiday we have ever had. Just being on the water and being close to nature was wonderful, on one day we saw 3 otters playing while we had breakfast, then we took a slow trip down the river ant and were lucky enough to see 11 kingfishers, 3 of which we managed to photograph, and later while having champagne on top of the boat in the evening by St. Benets Abbey we saw 2 barn owls, 2 marsh harriers and then fell asleep hearing the deer barking in the fields, magical!!!'

'My husband and I both really enjoyed our first boating experience. We found it relaxing and fun and especially enjoyed exploring the natural beauty around us. Our boat was just right for the two of us with everything we needed on board. I was surprised just how much storage space there was - certainly enough for two although it would have been a struggle for any more. The catering facilities were fine although we took advantage of the many pubs by the riverside and ate out quite a few times - more of a holiday for me! Next year we are thinking of getting a bigger boat and sharing with friends.'

The boat was well equipped - everything we needed. I would recommend spending time planning your route/stops on the Broads to get the most out of it - we loved the quiet backwaters, not the busy little towns.'

'This was our first time on the Broads (or any boating holiday) and therefore we decided on a short break, however we all (my partner, two kids 11 and 8, and me) thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the holiday including the relaxing sailing up and down the Broads, the hospitality and good food at the local pubs and restaurants and the friendly people. 'Watching wildlife is great from a boat, animals seem to ignore you, we have passed so close to Kingfishers you could reach out and touch them. Tying up in some quiet mooring and just watching the birds and the boats and the river, it is impossible not to relax. '

'I would recommend Swan Craft the boat we had Swan Rapier was everything we thought it would be in terms of layout and fittings and presented in a very tidy manner. We have had a break every year for the passed 5 years on the Norfolk Broads (only 45 mins drive from our home) this years was the best by far due to the type of boat I would also like to mention the Staff at Swan Craft were very welcoming and helpful in getting us underway in good time.'

'This was was our first boating holiday and we had a few best ever holiday moments. The cruiser had the best ever kitchen, where else can you cook with perfect sunsets shimmering across the water outside your kitchen window. It was a similar story with the dining area and eating alfresco on the top deck at sunset, no restaurant in the world could offer such a beautiful setting.
We are now hooked on boating and are already planning to come back next year. '

'The boat was really well equipped and comfortable. We chose the holiday to get away from every day stresses and strains and therefore moored away from the crowds. We enjoy cooking healthy and tasty meals and having a well equipped boat was really important to us. We did take our own wok, home grown vegetables and herbs and enjoying the results at sunset! Others may choose to experience a more social experience, however the choice is one of the best parts. It's possible to tailor your perfect holiday to your particular taste.'

'Oulton Broad is well worth visiting and passing through Breydon Water isn't as scary as you think! We gad a nice meal at the Old Inn in Horning itself but just mooring up in the middle of nowhere and cooking for yourself is fantastic!
